ASINARA ISLAND: PART II

On Asinara, the abandoned ruins of former days litter the island from north to south, providing ample diversion for visitors, who come to explore, hike, cycle, swim, snorkel, and paddle.

💡 TIPS:

Rent an electric golfcart (€80) and drive the island from end to end while staying sheltered from the mega-intense Sardinian sun. Advance booking recommended via asinararentcar.it.

E-bikes and regular bicycles are also available for rent at the Cala Reale ferry dock.

Wear a swimsuit! (And lots of sunscreen). There is not much in the way of shade on the island, but Asinara’s waters are crystal clear and the seafloor is soft sand. The most popular beach is Cala Sabina in the north, but if you want to swim or snorkel in solitude, stop off ad hoc at the many incredible little beaches that line the eastern coast.

There are two restaurants in the northern village of Cala Oliva, but we brought our own picnic, along with several bottles of water and were glad we did.

Guided tours (via Landcruiser, bus, or mini train) can be booked advance online, but we toured the island independently and enjoyed the freedom to explore at our own pace.
