ÍSLANDI Í MYNDIR

ICELAND IN PHOTOS

I could write and write about Iceland. But never do it justice. Nor, will the photos. The country and people are admirably refined in what can only be described as the rugged, roughest way. The landscape is like this, too. Raw, yet expressive. Solitary surfaces that roil with secret magic beneath. Snaking roads that wind like ribbons through canyons, fields of long-ago exploded earth, glittering vales—all the while captivating the eye and soothing the soul. The people are courteous, kind and brusquely fun-loving. The bars offer tasty local, craft beers. Restaurants serve hearty, hot food with curious origins and ingredients we rarely encounter in warmer climes. The sun quite literally, never sets (much of the year). And the history of both land and inhabitants is a constant undercurrent, buried underfoot and carved into landscapes, revered mostly—in lore. Beautiful, vivid tales that excite the mind and shock the senses.

We saw only the smallest sliver of you, Iceland. But it made us hungry for more. We’ll be back …
