ADRIFT HOTEL

We definitely have our favorite hang spots on the Washington Coast. Among them—the villages of Ilwaco, Oysterville, and Moclips. Also on the list: Long Beach. Over New Year’s break, we decided to try a recently-redone hipster hotel called, Adrift, situated right on the water. It turned out to be a great stay.

Our room was large and airy with solid features: king bed, fridge, flatscreen TV, sitting area, roomy bath, tasteful decor, view of the beach. The blackout curtains (essential for coastal stays where the light streams in) worked really well. Almost too well. The wifi was strong. The on-site restaurant—Pickled Fish—serves tasty farm-to-table fare, and they offer free bikes, fancy-schmancy hot drinks, and board games in the lobby.

They also happen to have a distillery on-site.

The location is ace. A five-minute stroll brings you to the Long Beach boardwalk (where you can walk or bike for miles along the coast)—or to downtown Long Beach, where a clutch of restaurants, cafes, and shops await.

Overall, great value for the money! I think we paid $99 / night for a very comfortable, very relaxed experience.

If you seek views, try and get a room in the West Wing (the main building that houses the restaurant and lobby). And if you’re on the fourth floor of the West Wing and worried about sound from the Pickled Fish restaurant (they often have live music)—we were about four doors down the hall and never heard a thing.
