LET LIGHT SPEAK
Westminster Abbey is one of the most beautiful examples of sacred space in modernist architecture. It was designed by Norwegian-born architect, Asbjorn Gathe in 1953. We spotted the Abbey, far off in the hills, while driving down from the Stein Valley, and drove until we found it, following signs for the Mission abbey. It is a Benedictine Abbey with thirty monks who live and work on the property. The sanctuary is open to the public.
We entered, very quietly, and sat for some time in the pews. What makes the abbey so special is the light that streams down through the stain glass windows. It embodies a feeling of holiness; of wonder and divinity touching earth and spreading amongst men.
